Beyond High School: Transition Planning for Adolescents with Disabilities is a research-based transition program that provides special educators with the tools and resources to prepare their students for life beyond high school. It is founded on current research that has concluded self-determination (SD) as an essential characteristic for success and utilizes best practice instructional methods for students with learning disabilities to acquire, maintain, and generalize newly acquired skills. This comprehensive program alleviates the common problems associated with preparing students for life beyond high school. Lessons are designed to be compliant with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004 and aligned with the National Standards and Quality Indicators for Transition. These requirements are supported by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and developed by the National Center on Secondary Education and Transition and the National Alliance for Secondary Education and Transition.
